How to give an agency access without sharing passwords
Sharing a password with a freelancer or agency is risky and often against the platform's rules. Every major network has an official way to give someone access to post for you, and to take it away again in one click. Here is how it works on each one.
| Channel | Official access | Role to give |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook and Instagram | Yes, partner access in your Meta business portfolio | Page and Instagram account, only the permissions needed |
| YouTube | Yes, channel permissions | Editor |
| Yes, partners in Business Manager | Publisher | |
| LinkedIn Page | Yes, Page admin roles | Content admin |
| LinkedIn personal profile | No delegate role | Use a scheduling tool |
| TikTok | Partly, through Business Center | Use a scheduling tool for posting |
Facebook and Instagram
- Open Meta business settings and select the right business portfolio. You need full access.
- Under Users, choose Partners, then Add, then Give a partner access to your assets.
- Enter the agency's 16-digit business portfolio ID. The agency sends you this number.
- Select your Facebook Page and Instagram account and give only the permissions the work needs.
- Review and assign. If the Page or account does not appear, connect it to your portfolio first.

YouTube
In YouTube Studio open Settings, then Permissions, invite the agency by email and choose a role. The Editor role can upload and publish content but cannot delete the channel or manage permissions. Invitations expire after 30 days. Source: YouTube Help.
In your business account open Business Manager, then Partners, and add the partner's business ID. On the profile tab tick Publisher for the profile you want to share. Publishers can create, edit and organise Pins. Source: Pinterest Help.
For a company Page, a Super admin adds the person under Manage admins with the Content admin role, which can create and manage posts and events. The person must be a 1st, 2nd or 3rd degree connection and follow the Page. Personal profiles have no delegate role, and LinkedIn's User Agreement forbids sharing your login. For personal profiles, connect a scheduling tool through LinkedIn's official sign-in instead. Sources: LinkedIn Help, Ligo Social.
TikTok
TikTok Business Center offers a Manage account permission that covers comments, direct messages and profile details, but TikTok's help page does not describe it as allowing a partner to publish new videos. The practical route is a scheduling tool that you connect through TikTok's official login, with the agency invited to that tool. Source: TikTok Ads Help.
One rule for every platform
Give the smallest role that gets the job done, keep ownership of every account in your own name, and remove access when the work ends. A good agency will ask for exactly this.
Salesfinch Studio never asks for passwords. We work only through official partner access or your own scheduling tool, so you stay in control.
